Faculty named National Academies Education Fellows in Life Sciences Drs. Zack Lewis and Anna Karls were named National Academies Education Fellows in the Life Sciences for the 2013-2014 academic year. The honor is based on their participation and contributions in the 2013 National Academies Southeast Summer Institute on Undergraduate Science Education which was held May 13-17, 2013 at UGA. Educators from 14 universities and colleges met at UGA for the summer institute for presentations, discussions and intensive group activities focusing on enhancement of undergraduate education. UGA Microbiology Graduate Student Selected for International Research Fellowship UGA Microbiology graduate student Hannah Bullock was selected as one of five recipients for the inaugural Franklin College-University of Liverpool Doctoral Student Short Term International Research Fellowship. These international reserach fellowhips are designed to facilitate collaborative interactions between scholars at UGA and the University of Liverpool. Microbiology Department Hosts Genomics Workshop The Microbiology Department was pleased to host a two-day workshop on comparative genomics taught by Prof. Valerie de Crecy-Lagard and assisted by Dr. Jennifer Thiaville, from the University of Florida (Department of Microbiology and Cell Science). UGA faculty members and graduate students were trained to use SEED, a comparative genomics database and workbench.
